What is a fair relocation package and what can/should i ask for?
dsjnix asked:
My husband has been offered a new position with same company in a different state. (From Atlanta, GA to Scranton, PA)They have offered him $125,000. He currently makes $65,000 and combined we make $136,000 per year. In moving I will be giving up my great job, so is it ok to ask for them to at least give us enough to make up what I will be giving up? (meaning increasing offer to $136,000 per year?) ( I will be giving up contributing to my retirement and stocks in addition to my salary.) My husband says we cannot expect them to care about my salary, but I disagree, who is right here? I also think they should pay for a trip for entire family to check out this city before making a decision, isn;t this typical.? What other things should we consider and ask for in this decision? ( we own a home and have three teenagers).

The offered position is with in company, so transfer rules of the company shall apply to your husband, for relocation. In case, he would have been joining an other company, he could have negotiated Actual Expenses, subject to maximum of limit for the following,
1. Packing, Loading, Transportation through surface transport, Transit Insurance, Unloading, Unpacking the house hold.
2. Passage for self, spouse, other dependents, like unemployed children, aged parents, etc.
3. Admission expenses of depending children, studying in school / college.
Over and above One month gross salary, as disturbance allowance.
@@ there is no hard and fast rules, it all depends upon the company’s RULES and REGULATIONS, and his relations with company’s senior executives.
@@@You are correct, make some more efforts to form a common opinion with in the house.
GOOD LUCK !!
